Checking in on the Resolutions...

The Short-List

Sooooooo.... Now that we're well into the second month of the New Year, it's a good time to check on how we're doing with those Resolutions we made. I'm doing this for 2 reasons:

  1. To be accountable to myself,

  2. To pat myself on the back.

It doesn't make sense to me to make a resolution and then blow it off if I didn't follow through with it, and it also doesn't make sense to me to not draw attention to our positive accomplishments. The whole idea of making a resolution is to create positive change so hopefully the latter reason gets a little more airtime than the first one, lol. Without any further ado then, let's get on with it!

OK Let's Tally the Score!

My first resolution was to identify and isolate toxic behaviour. What a doozie that is!! And did I EVER kick off the year by saying my truth where some seriously toxic soup had been choking me for quite some time. I won't get into the nitty gritty of it but I will say that although, on the surface, it looks like it cost me a friendship, the truth of it is that this particular friendship was on a downward trajectory, and likely to crash at any time anyway. I will be fine lol, in fact, I feel a better for it and that I've really unburdened myself from something that had been weighing heavily on my conscience.

Resolution 2 was to be decisive. Well, what went down in the first resolution could only have happened with decisiveness so that's a "check"! Further on this point, I've made a concerted effort not to be wishy-washy - if I think I don't really have a preference put forward to me in a choice, I think hard until I do pick one. I've been really guilty in the past of being really easy going, too easy going, letting everyone else make the call and being ok with it. I've been planning a vacation with a pal and we've been really honest with each other about what we do and don't want to do and it's been a total breeze. I've found that having and voicing an opinion is not only helpful, it's gratifying to have someone listen and accept it. Then you make a compromise if your opinions are incongruent.

The third rezzy on my list was to try new things. I always wanted to try a pottery wheel and guess what I did last month? Don't look too closely, they're not as symmetrical as they could be (OMG, not nearly!) but I did it, I had a totally fun experience and I just might do that again, it was totally worth my time, effort and cash! And I have 2 custom-made little bowls to wow my guests with, haha!

My final resolution for the new year is to give back. I've volunteered with a local organization who, with the assistance of a grant from the United Way, provides transportation for those who can't drive. So, I'm driving seniors, folks with disabilities, and for anyone else who applies to the program that needs a ride to an appointment, grocery-shopping or whatever they have on the go. I've met some really nice people along the way and I can't believe how grateful they are! It feels really good to know that I'm helping them and that they really appreciate my time and efforts. Win-win, I say.

High-Five! (It's actually a High-Four)

Well, it seems as though I'm 4 for 4; I'm happy to report that I'm meeting my objectives so far in 2026! Obviously I am glad to have positive results but I'm also very sure that these resolutions work toward a better "me". Given these two outcomes I will continue on with the 4 objectives for the duration of the year, reminding myself of them and their quantifiable improvements. Yay for me!

How are your New Year's Resolutions Going?

I'd love to hear your own success stories; always feel free to contact me with your thoughts, ideas and/or just to say hi. Thank you for stopping in and I'll look forward to seeing you again!
